George Stinnes, head of investor relations at British Airways, and Mary Keegan of the Accounting Standards Board, are set to lead a debate on the accounting impact of FRS 17, at this year's National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) conference in Brighton in May.

FRS 17: The accounting impact is one of a number of key debates expected at the 2002 conference, with Myners, Equitable Life, defined contribution v defined benefit, amongst some of the more timely events to be discussed.

FRS 17, the standard which "forces" companies to report pension fund liabilities on the balance sheet, has been heavily criticised for potentially jeopardising future company pension provision.

It is fully implemented in 2003, with the consequences for all companies being very significant, especially where the pension fund has a far higher value than the company.
